Telebirr is Ethio Telecom's mobile money service, launched in May 2021. Within two years it became Ethiopia's largest fintech platform with over 40 million registered users, transforming how Ethiopians send money, pay bills, and access financial services.

Despite rapid adoption, the app faced significant usability challenges that hindered deeper engagement — particularly among first-time smartphone users and people in rural areas with limited digital literacy.
